February 8th: Profile…

‘I thought about the word ‘profile’ and what a weird double meaning it had. We say we’re looking at a person’s profile online, or say a newspaper is writing a profile on someone, and we assume it’s the whole them we’re seeing. But when a photographer takes a picture of a profile, you’re only seeing half the face… It’s never the way you would remember seeing them.’

February 22nd: Pull…

‘Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray.’
Jalaluddin Mevlana Rumi

I’ve gone back further for this week’s Throwback Thursday, all the way to 2016, to a photo that I loved. Soft colours combined with a twisting, painful image; I was pretty proud of this one…

But could I make it softer? Would that make it more powerful?

February 20th: Free the Nipple…

‘Life is a theatre set in which there are but few practicable entrances.’
Victor Hugo, Les Misérables

Yesterday evening, I went to the Royal Albert Hall to watch the recording of my favourite podcast, the Guilty Feminist. The recording itself was wonderful and I can’t wait to hear it again!

As often happens, early in the show Deborah Frances-White asked if anyone was wearing a feminist t-shirt, and among the responses was a woman wearing a ‘free the nipple’ shirt!

So I thought I would…

Finding an open door into a box overlooking an empty Royal Albert Hall was much too good an opportunity to miss after all!
